The game is scheduled for the weekend of September 10/11/12, with the exact date and kick-off to be confirmed nearer the time.

The Falcons will provide Edinburgh’s opposition for their first game at their new base – the 7,800-capacity Edinburgh Rugby Stadium – which boasts an artificial playing surface in the grounds of the Murrayfield complex.

Details of potential spectator numbers and ticket availability will be confirmed by Edinburgh in due course – Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards welcoming the fixture.

“We have established a pretty long tradition now of playing games against Edinburgh during pre-season, and they continue to prove useful for both clubs,” he said.

“The geography makes things easier from a logistical point of view, and the standard of opposition means it’s a really meaningful run-out on the final weekend before the new Gallagher Premiership season gets underway.”

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill said: “We’re really excited to run out in our new home for the first time. It’ll be a big moment for everyone connected with the club.

“Newcastle Falcons are a quality opponent who have recruited well so far this summer, while any team coached by Dean Richards will be tough to play against.”

The 2021-22 Gallagher Premiership begins on the weekend of September 17/18/19, with the fixtures due to be announced at 11am on Tuesday July 13.

Newcastle Falcons hope to announce details of 2021-22 season ticket membership packages during July, which will be communicated to supporters as soon as they are finalised.

An exciting Falcons squad has seen a great degree of stability, with contract extensions having been announced for key players including England’s Callum Chick and Trevor Davison, USA Eagle Greg Peterson and Premiership Team of the Season winger Ben Stevenson.

New signings include 2021 Premiership title winners Mike Brown and Nathan Earle, Worcester pair George Merrick and Richard Palframan, Connacht prop Conor Kenny and former Ulster lock Matthew Dalton.

The Falcons have also promoted six exciting local prospects into the senior academy, with Mark Dormer, Guy Pepper, Ewan Greenlaw, Ollie Fletcher, Marcus Tiffen and Louie Johnson all signing up.
