Newcastle Festival of Rugby to return
Kingston Park Stadium will play host to a feast of Sevens rugby this summer, with the ground set to host one of 38 qualifying rounds for the new 24/Sevens national competition.
Taking place on Saturday, June 10th, the event will see four separate tournaments take place over the course of the day in the shape of an open men’s competition, men’s social competition, women’s competition and veterans 10 competition.
Kicking off at 10:30 am, it promises to be a fun-filled day of fast paced action, with prize giveaways and further entertainment set to take place throughout.
The event is an evolution of last year’s Newcastle Festival of Rugby, where 22 teams took part in three competitions,
Irish Wolfhounds, a development side for the Irish national 7s team emerged on top in the main men’s competition in 2016, while in the women’s event it was Northcastle, a combined Newcastle and Northumbria University side, who prevailed.
Launched in 2016, 24/Sevens is a community series aims to continue to grow sevens rugby and increase participation among men and women, with over 6,000 people taking part last year.
The competition will culminate in a showpiece national final event hosted by England Rugby at The Recreation Ground in Bath on the 29th July.
