26-year-old centre Powell and prop Brookes, 22, have each signed two-year-deals with the Falcons as Dean Richards’ charges prepare to land an assault on promotion to the Aviva Premiership.

Powell, who joined the Falcons last month following eight seasons with Saracens, has already made an immediate impression on Tyneside in the three games he has played so far.

Making his Falcons bow in the 14-12 RFU Championship victory at Nottingham in March, the former England Saxon touched down on his home debut in the Good Friday clash with Jersey.

“I have really enjoyed my time in the North East since I arrived at the club, and I am excited at what this club can achieve in the long-term,” said Powell.

“Obviously our main focus at the moment is on winning promotion back to the Premiership, and I want to play my part in helping the club achieve this goal,” he added.

Adding further Premiership experience to the Falcons ranks is robust front-rower Brookes, who is currently on a dual registration contract with Leicester Tigers.

Returning for his second spell at Kingston Park, Brookes made 40 appearances for the Falcons during his previous stint on Tyneside which spanned two seasons.

The England Saxon tight-head has featured in two of the Falcons’ league games since joining the club, but has recently been recalled to the Leicester fold to act as injury cover.

Brookes is delighted to have sealed a permanent move to Newcastle, saying: “I am really pleased to be staying in the North East, and I am enthusiastic about my future here.

“I had a fantastic experience at Leicester and I learnt a lot, but I am now looking forward to playing regular rugby again.”

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards said: “I am thrilled that Adam and Kieran have signed for us, and I am very much looking forward to working with them.

“They are both quality acquisitions, and they can see what we are trying to do at the club in the long-term.”
