PREMIERSHIP RUGBY 7s – GROUP D A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

With the team delivering on the pitch, Newcastle Falcons were also delighted with the response of the North East sporting public on Saturday as a bumper 7057 people made their way to the Northern Echo Arena for the Premiership Rugby 7s.

After the event had to switch following slight delays in the construction process of the new 3G synthetic playing surface at Kingston Park, the Falcons and Darlington Mowden Park RFC worked in partnership to deliver an event worthy of the competition.

Supporter feedback on the evening and via the club’s social media channels over the rest of the weekend indicate that those in attendance enjoyed their evening at the country’s biggest dedicated club rugby stadium and the 7s matches as a whole.

Falcons Marketing & Communications officer Andrew Robson said “We have worked very closely with Darlington Mowden Park over the last couple of weeks to ensure the 7s remained a top class event and I think it’s safe to say we have achieved that.”

“While Kingston Park is home and a ground that we would have loved to host Group D’s games, the Northern Echo Arena was a more than acceptable substitute and I am personally proud that the work of everyone at both clubs delivered a record attendance for the stadium since it became a dedicated rugby stadium.”

“The crowd played a massive part in helping the club maintain a 100% record in terms of games and group stages in the Premiership Rugby 7s and we’re all looking forward to building on the success of Saturday in the season ahead.”

The Falcons’ next slice of pre season action in the North East will see them christen their new 3G pitch at Kingston Park when Rotherham Titans provide the opposition in friendly game on Saturday 23rd August, kickoff is at 3pm.

Tickets are priced £10 for adults and £5 for Under 16s for the match, whilst it is also included in the Falcons 2014/2015 season ticket package.
