The Falcons second-string led 21-14 at the break after early tries through Belisario and skipper Ally Hogg (pictured), both converted by Brett Connon, but tries from fly-half Jamie Shillcock and centre Will Butler pulled the home side back to within two points.

Simon Uzokwe crossed on 35 minutes to hand Newcastle their seven-point interval lead, Ted Hill narrowing the gap for Worcester when he went over.

Hogg’s second try secured the Falcons’ four-try bonus point, but Worcester sealed the win through tries from Afeafe Haisila Lokotui and centre Ollie Lawrence.

A Joel Matavesi penalty rescued a second bonus point for Newcastle, whose academy manager and first team skills coach Mark Laycock said: “The overall feeling from a coaching point of view is frustration, and we were probably complacent as a team.

“Worcester deserved to win the game because they wanted it more than us, they scored some fantastic tries and we didn’t control the game as we should have.”
