This is an exciting opportunity for an MSK/sports physiotherapist to join the medical department at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club. The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of physiotherapy for the Academy and assisting the 1st XV when able. The multi-disciplinary team also consists of coaches, strength and conditioning coaches and masseurs.

You will have a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or an alternative appropriate qualification, be a Chartered Physiotherapist registered with the HPC and a Member of CSP. It is also desirable to have at least 2 years sports and MSK physiotherapy experience.

**Main purpose of role**

To manage and oversee the development of a comprehensive physiotherapy service

To work as an autonomous practitioner and deliver a quality clinical service meeting the clinical and commercial needs of the Newcastle Falcons Academy Programme

To strive for clinical excellence in the management of musculoskeletal problems to ensure optimal outcomes for Academy players

To develop and promote a positive and dynamic image and culture

To develop and foster productive relationships with parents, teachers and coaches

To assist the 1st XV Physiotherapists

To provide pitchside first aid cover to RFU standards

**Key Tasks**

Plan the medical support structure of the Academy programme in conjunction with other members of coaching staff

Manage and deliver injury rehabilitation programmes and physiotherapy care for all registered Academy athletes with regular feedback to coaches and support networks, visiting off site where necessary

Complete medical screening tests with all Academy athletes and keep up-to-date records of the development and progress of each athlete

Attend all Academy training sessions and fixtures, including the A Team, providing pitch side cover and arranging additional medical support where appropriate

Provide advice and support to all associated athletes, including overseeing the medical provision of School of Rugby and EPDG players (or equivalent programmes)

Plan and deliver physiotherapy treatment sessions to the AASE Scheme, visiting off site where necessary

Provide wider education to players, their support networks and the rugby community regarding medical protocols and best practice (via seminars and workshops)

Assist with 1st team squad medical care as required by the Head of the Medical department, provided it does not clash with Academy duties

To conduct all clinical interventions and related actions in line with relevant professional standards, such as CSP and HPC, as well as Newcastle Falcons standards and policies and where applicable, contract parameters and KPIs.

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical and professional activities

To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and to maintain a contemporary record of such activity, in line with recommendations of CSP and HPC

To contribute to service development initiatives and other adhoc projects and tasks as agreed with Team Leader

To contribute as required to internal and external educational initiatives and lecture programme

To participate in audits in line with PGB standards

To provide clinical supervision to students.

To contribute to multidisciplinary audit research and evaluation of the clinical effectiveness and evidence base for the management of elite athletes.

– HPC registration
– CSP member
– Full UK drivers license
– Desirable
– Post graduate qualification (or working towards)
– MSK experience
– 2 years sports physiotherapy experience
– Experience in rugby

**Salary:** £22,500 pa
