Burke confirmed for Legends showcase

One of the greatest fullbacks in history will once again grace the Kingston Park pitch this October as Matt Burke is confirmed as the latest player to confirm his participation in the Falcons Legends game.

Joining the Falcons in September 2004 and staying in the North East for four seasons, Burke rapidly became a fan favourite and a valued member of the Falcons squad.

Often delivering the same kind of virtuoso performances he did in the gold and green of Australia, over the course of his career at Kingston Park, he made 59 Aviva Premiership appearances, scored 16 tries, 23 conversions, 53 penalties and a drop goal on his way to 288 career points.

His dedication to the club went beyond his commitment during the games and in 2007, to afford the Falcons greater flexibility in selection, Burke applied for and was granted British citizenship.

So impressive was Burke in the Falcons number 15 shirt, negotiations were held in regards to extending his contract beyond its 2008 expiration, but with the ACL injury that cut short his final season not healing sufficiently, Burke was forced into retirement.

Now forging a media career as the main sports presenter at Ten News Sydney, the 1999 World Cup winner has maintained his links with the sport and is looking forward to one last appearance at Kingston Park.
