Newcastle Falcons flanker Todd Clever played a pivotal role in USA Eagles 30-22 Americas Rugby Championship win over Canada last weekend, a result which sends them top of the standings after two rounds.

Trailing 12-10 at half time, Clever seized the initiative for his side with a three try blitz over 10 minutes, much to the delight of the 7,415 fans at Dell Diamond stadium in Houston.

All three came after excellent mauling work from the Eagles within the Canadian 22, that allowed the American captain to lead by example and ensure the USA tie with Argentina XV on ten points at the summit of the table.

His three scores against Canada and his single try a week earlier against the Argentines see Clever take over the mantle as the U.S.’s leading try-scorer in the competition.

Clever and Falcons team mate Eric Fry will be eligible for selection for the Eagles for this Saturday’s game against Chile in Florida, before returning to the North East and Falcons duties.
