Clash comes to Kingston Park
A keenly contest fixture due to the rivalry between the two institutions, the game kicks off at 19:30 with league points and bragging rights at stake.
A Falcon with recent experience of the “Clash of the Titans” as the Northumbria University marketing team bill the match, is Academy lock Will Witty, who was a member of the Newcastle University side who ran out 22 -17 victors in 2013.
The emerging talent, who has also represented England at Under 18 level rates the experience highly in terms of the quality of the game and atmosphere and how it helps a young player’s development.
“It’s good to be part of the games between Newcastle and Northumbria and the atmosphere with all the students there is class. You get a real buzz as you run out and are playing. It’s a bit different to a normal crowd as everyone is a bit more laree, but it is all in good spirits.”
“There is a massive rivalry between the two so anyone who is in those teams will have the adrenaline pumping as kick off approaches you always get upbeat for the game and the adrenalin gets pumping.”
“The opportunity to play in front of a fairly big crowd that is as vocal as that one, is a really good one that means that if you get to play in the first team, or a big representative game for the Under 20s say, you’ve got experience.”
Whilst not involved in on field matters this season as he embarks on his first year as a full time member of the Falcons senior academy, Witty still has links with the team and will be along on Wednesday to offer his support to some of his former team mates.
“I know a few of the lads that are part of Newcastle’s team, and Ian Billington who is the captain, has been involved in a couple of the A League games so I’ll definitely be down on Wednesday with a few of my mates.”
Tickets for Clash of the Titans are on sale via Northumbria and Newcastle Universities with cash turnstiles also in operation on the evening.
