Senior Academy scrum half Ruaridh Dawson has committed his long term future to Newcastle Falcons after agreeing a new three year contract with the club.

The 18 year old player has enjoyed an impressive debut season as a full time professional and has seized all opportunities that have come his way.

He began his season featuring for the club in the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s series, before joining club mates Joe Craggs and Dan Marshall in representing England at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa.

On his return, he made his Aviva Premiership Rugby debut away to Northampton Saints , coming off the bench at Stadium:MK and gained further first team experience in the European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture against Enisei in Sochi.

He gained further international recognition during this season’s U20s RBS 6 Nations tournament as he played for Scotland in their fixtures against France and Ireland, coming of the bench in both games.

Speaking about his new deal, Falcons Academy Manager Mark Laycock said: “We’re delighted that he is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. He has had a roller coaster of a year so far with lots of different experiences which I don’t think anyone really expected that he would have.”

“He’s steadily got better and better as the year has gone on and we’re delighted that he will continue to his development here with us and learning off guys like Micheal in the first team squad.”

“He is still young, he doesn’t turn 19 until July, but he has done so much maturing by being part of a full time environment and I think that will only continue.”
