Dawson and Marshall ready for 7s showdown

Ruaridh Dawson and Dan Marshall are looking forward to this weekend’s Singha Premiership Rugby 7s and the opportunity to enjoy a first experience in a Falcons shirt at Kingston Park.

The pair, who are new additions to the club’s senior academy this season, will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s 7s squad and qualify for the Stoop finals and impress on the way.

Lining up with experience 7s players from the Scottish national side, Dawson says that brings an added assistance to he and the younger members of the squad.

“The Scotland boys coming in bring a lot to the game, they have made it quite simple for us and if we do things wrong on the pitch, they can tell us so we can put it right in the next set of training.”

Marshall added: “They give you little hints and tips it makes it a lot easier during training and if we listen to them, it will make our lives a lot easier when we’re playing.”

Although his first outing in front of the Kingston Park fans, Marshall made a guest appearance for the 7s team in last year’s finals and thinks this weekend is an opportunity tailor made to his and Dawson’s skills.

“My one tackle was great! Yeah it was really good, just being down there, being involved and getting a first chance”

“It [7’s] gives me and Ruaridh a chance, because we’re smaller and faster lads, it gives us a chance to show what we can do. The training has been alright and the Scotland 7s lads have brought in a lot of new things that we hadn’t thought about.”
