FALCONS CONTINUE STRONG LINKS WITH CUMBRIAN SCHOOLS
Four out of the six districts so far have received coaching, leading to local festivals to support club recruitment, with the final two set up for the spring linking in with established club plans.
The latest aspect of this programme saw two Cumbria-based schools given the opportunity to play off at half-time during Sunday’s Aviva Premiership match against Northampton Saints. The overall prize for the winners of the game was the chance to go to Twickenham in May for the Aviva Premiership Final. The game was fiercely competitive with Stanwix School (Carlisle) eventually edging out Yanwath School by a single try.
Both schools qualified for their big day out, through winning their respective festivals in the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme, which is taking place in Cumbria for the first time, by Newcastle Falcons. All participants were awarded medals and t-shirts to remind them of their big day. The trophy was handed to Stanwix by Falcons players and the Stanwix pupils will now enjoy another day out in London.
