Falcons face Gloucester in Aviva Premiership opener

Friday 03 July 2015 Written by: Adam

Newcastle Falcons will host Gloucester Rugby on Friday 16th October at Kingston Park Stadium in the Season Opener of the 2015/16 Aviva Premiership Rugby season.

An eight o clock kick off, the visit of David Humphreys’ side will provide an exciting launch to the campaign, which starts later in the year than normal due to the 2015 Rugby World Cup being staged in England and Cardiff.

Following the Season Opener, the Falcons take to the road for round two with Northampton Saints the opposition for the first away match of the season. This game will take place at stadium:mk in Milton Keynes due to building work at Franklins Gardens. They return to the North East a week later to take on Exeter Chiefs on Sunday 1st November, the day after the Rugby World Cup Final.

With the first two rounds of European action and two league away games in November, the Falcons kick off December against reigning champions Saracens on Sunday December 6th.

Only the first two Aviva Premiership rounds have been allocated to live TV, so fixtures after Round 2 are, as always, subject to change should they be selected by BT Sport.

In addition to the confirmation of the new seasons Aviva Premiership fixtures, the Falcons have also confirmed that their season opening Kings of the North tri team tournament against Leicester and Sale, will start at home against the Sharks on Sunday, September 6th

The new tournament, which replaces the LV= Cup for this season, concludes Dean Richards’ men with a home game versus Tigers on Friday 25th September.

The European Challenge Cup fixtures will be confirmed later in the summer although the club does know it will face French side Brive, Connacht from Ireland and Russian Champions Enisei –STM in Pool 1.

Commenting on the fixture Managing Director Mick Hogan said

“Everyone at the club is looking forward to next season, one that promises to be the biggest ever for rugby in England. We’ve ensured where possible that matches don’t clash with the Rugby World Cup matches and other local sporting fixtures. For this reason we will start on Friday 16th October so we don’t go up against the four RWC Quarter Finals taking place on the Saturday and Sunday of that weekend.

The majority of the fixtures will be played in our preferred Sunday afternoon slot. We do have a couple of other Fridays and two Saturdays. The Saturday games are our New Year fixture versus Bath and the Round 22 clash with Sale Sharks when we are required to kick off in line with all other matches.

Season Ticket Memberships sales are at a seven year high and with attendances up 28% in 2014-15 we are getting ready for a huge year of rugby at Kingston Park Stadium. The announcement of the Aviva Premiership fixtures whets the appetite even further.”

Season Ticket Memberships cover 11 Aviva Premiership, 3 European Challenge Cup group games, the 2 Kings of the North Cup games and the Singha Premiership Sevens Series. Members also receive discount and priority booking on the International friendly versus Georgia and the Legends game in October. They are currently on sale and offer members a host of other benefits as well as guaranteeing your seat for all games.

Tickets for all games are on sale now by ringing 0871 226 6060 or by clicking here.
