Falcons HITZ programme update
Growing from supporting Level 1 Sports and Protective Services students to now including Level 2, we are helping more than 50 students to raise their attainment level through a programme of guidance and enrichment.
Students working towards their qualifications are given opportunities unique to the HITZ programme at Newcastle College, including meaningful work placements at Newcastle Falcons Rugby club on match-days, hearing from guest speakers from the club, the police force, the fire service and more!
Some students from this year’s programme have also joined The Cast, Newcastle Falcons’ volunteer programme, helping them develop their confidence, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
The chance to be involved on a match day helping the fantastic supporters of Newcastle Falcons is an amazing opportunity which also helps the students to build their CV, improving their chances of employment or further education going forward.
Millie, a HITZ Level 2 student, said: “The HITZ programme has helped me so much. I have become more confident, and it has helped my mental health.
“My favourite aspect of the programme is it is a place I can be myself, have fun and laugh and improve my skills. I have been given the opportunity to gain work experience working at Newcastle Falcons’ club shop, which has helped my communication and organizational skills.”
The HITZ programme at Newcastle College will be looking to recruit for the 2022-23 academic year in the upcoming months.
