Falcons team up with Hire a Hero for Saracens Game
The club will use the Aviva Premiership fixture to raise awareness and funds for Hire a Hero, a charity that assists forces and ex-military personnel with training, employment, mentoring and housing.
The main feature of the day will be a pre-match game between the Hire a Hero Gorillas and a North East Barbarians side, kicking off at 12.15pm. The Gorillas are the rugby team of the charity and they have a long history of organising and appearing in charity matches to raise funds and awareness.
The North East Barbarians side will be made up of two players each from eleven local rugby clubs.
To assist in raising as much money as possible for the charity, the Hire a Hero team will be selling tickets to the Falcons v Saracens game with a £5 donation being generated from each ticket of these tickets sold.
They will also benefit from the bucket collection at the match and from a Hire a Hero Gorillas merchandise point positioned in the West Stand.
Speaking about the forthcoming partnership Falcons managing director Mick Hogan said “Hire a Hero do some outstanding work supporting ex-military personnel as they adapt to civilian life. They have a huge association with rugby and with the north east so it makes obvious sense that they are part of one of our biggest matches of the year.”
Hogan added: “There will be added local interest as the team they are playing will be made up of north east lads, many of them well known to our supporters. Tickets are already selling fast for the Christmas game versus Saracens and the Gorillas v Barbarians game will add a lot to what is already shaping up to be a big day.”
