The Academy Under-18 League starts on Saturday 26 October with the Falcons fledglings taking on Gloucester at Middlesbrough RFC (2pm kick-off). This is followed by two more games before Christmas against local rivals Sale Sharks (Northern RFC) and Leeds Carnegie (Away). In the new year the Falcons will visit Worcester and Leicester (both Away) and host Northampton (Penrith RFC) before the league concludes with a day of play-off games in February.

Academy manager Mark Laycock said: “Following on from the vision and values of the club we recognised that we need to be more accessible to the general public so hosting our Academy games around the three counties gives everyone the chance to see the Falcons closer to their own front door.

“The first team played at Hawick in the Scottish Borders in pre-season, which was very well received and the A Team played against Leeds Under-23s at Mowden Park’s Northern Echo Arena and against Blaydon RFC at Crow Trees in pre-season. The trip to Carlisle RFC is not far away and then we have a game against North Wales on Monday 2 December at Percy Park RFC.

“We see the Under-18 League as a great opportunity for us to work closer with the local rugby community and through the fantastic work of Mel and the Falcons Community Foundation we hope we can give something back to grassroots rugby. We are extremely grateful to all the clubs for hosting the games and would encourage as many rugby fans as possible to come along and cheer on the region’s best young players.”
