Prop Mark Dormer, hooker Ollie Fletcher, back-rower Marcus Tiffen, back-five forward Matt Deehan and centre Ewan Greenlaw are all part of the England Under-20s training group this week.

A handful of additional Falcons players were also invited but will remain with the Falcons for rehab and training with the first team squad, while a total of eight players have been invited to train with England Under-18s.

That northern development camp will take place on the weekend of October 2-3 at Queen Ethelburga’s, near York.

The players are:

Michael Rewcastle (prop, Gosforth Academy / Blaydon RFC / Durham)

Charlie Smith (hooker, Dame Allans School / Novocastrians RFC / Northumberland)

Luke Coulston (lock, Gosforth Academy / Penrith RFC / Cumbria)

Ben Douglas (scrum-half, Gosforth Academy / Northern FC / Northumberland)

Jeremy Civil (centre, Gosforth Academy / Wensleydale RFC / Cumbria)

Jake Metcalfe (wing, Barnard Castle School / Durham)

Nat Greenwood (full-back, Gosforth Academy / Whitley Bay Rockliffe RFC / Northumberland)

Harry Williams (fly-half/full-back, Barnard Castle School / Stockton RFC / Durham)

Newcastle Falcons academy manager Mark Laycock welcomed the call-ups, saying: “It’s an exciting time when players are called into their respective England squads.

“On the one hand it can be seen as a reward for all their effort and dedication, and on the other hand it’s a new challenge whereby they need to step up their game to stand out amongst better players.

“We have seen first hand through the summer internationals how guys like Jamie Blamire and Adam Radwan have made that transition to play for the full England side, and hopefully some of these youngsters coming through the academy will follow in their footsteps.”
