FURY POSITIVE AHEAD OF IRISH CLASH
The 27-year-old scrum-half skippered Newcastle Falcons against the newly-promoted French side in the absence of Will Welch as the northeasterners missed out on making it two wins out of two in Europe.
“It’s obviously disappointing to lose, particularly when we were on level terms going into the last quarter of the game,” said the Welsh international.
“That said, we displayed some good stuff on the night which is very encouraging going into the London Irish match,” he added.
Fury captained the Falcons for the first time since his move to the North East exactly a year ago. And the Swansea-born No.9 admits he was honoured to lead the Kingston Park outfit in front of a hostile French crowd.
He said: “To captain Newcastle Falcons in Europe filled me with pride – it would have been a lot sweeter had we secured victory, but we’ll now move on and turn our focus to the Premiership.
“I now want to push on and continue to compete for a place in the starting line-up. Fingers crossed I can do just that.”
Paying tribute to an army of Falcons supporters, who travelled to both Bucharest and Brive, Fury said: “It means a lot to see so many Falcons supporters travelling across Europe to support the team, and it makes me proud to represent the club.”
