The clash in the Fijian capital of Suva saw the Premiership Player of the Season scoring the final try for his side, collecting an inside pass and riding a tackle to ground the ball in the right corner.

The Samoan team included Falcons wing Sinoti Sinoti and summer signing Logovi’i Mulipola.

Newcastle scrum-half Sonatane Takulua slotted a conversion for Tonga as they fell to a 16-15 defeat to Georgia in their Pacific Nations Cup opener, also played in Suva as part of a double header.

Falcons centre Chris Harris played the full 80 minutes for Scotland as they defeated Canada 48-10 in Edmonton.

Newcastle flanker Guy Graham started at open-side for Scotland Under-20s on Thursday as they were defeated 35-10 by an England Under-20s side who have Falcons academy coach James Ponton on their staff for Junior World Championship in France.

Ponton’s England will face South Africa in Tuesday’s semi-final, while Graham’s Scotland face Ireland the same day in the ninth-place play-off.

This coming Saturday’s Pacific Nations Cup schedule sees Tonga facing Samoa in Suva, the same city also hosting Fiji’s match against Georgia.

Scotland face the USA in Houston in the early hours of Sunday morning, while Mark Wilson is on tour with an England squad whose second test against South Africa takes place in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
