Green ready for Saracens challenge
Newcastle have won their last two home games in the league, including a thrilling 46-31 victory over Northampton Saints during their last Kingston Park outing.
Defeat at second-placed Exeter Chiefs may have slowed the Falcons’ progress a little last weekend, but Green still believes a top-half finish is a realistic goal as attention turns towards their 2pm kick-off against the champions.
“Saracens have lost a couple of games during the international windows and have missed a few boys, so it’s a good time to play them,” said the second-rower.
“They still have quality players and nobody is taking them lightly by any means, but we’re feeling confident we can beat anybody, especially at home. I just can’t wait to get out there.
“They are a big side up front so our forwards have an important job to do, to win the ball and disrupt their ball as much as possible at scrum and line-out time. There will be a lot of kick-chase and we have to work hard to fill the field, but we know what’s coming and we’re looking forward to it. We’re not fearful or anything like that, we just want to go out there and put in a good performance and hopefully get that win.”
Aiming for a repeat of the vocal soundtrack provided by a crowd of over 7,500 at their last home outing, Green said: “The atmosphere against Northampton was great, and this season in particular has seen a rise in our attendances.
“The feeling around the club is good and that’s certainly in large part down to what the crowd give us on the day. Hopefully the people who came to the Northampton game and enjoyed it will come and see us against Saracens this weekend, and people seem to be responding well to what we are doing as a club.”
