Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) paid a visit to Newcastle College to deliver a talk to students who are currently enrolled on the HITZ programme.

HITZ is a programme in partnership with Newcastle College and Premiership Rugby which aims to re-engage young people in education and employability, using sport as a vehicle. It is designed to help young people develop vital life skills and improve their career prospects.

Hitachi Construction Machinery UK Ltd (HCMUK) are a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe and are responsible for the supply of excavators, wheel loaders, parts and servicing to the UK and Irish construction industry. They produce the widest range of hydraulic excavators in the world and are renowned for their high quality, advanced technology and unrivalled reliability.

During the talk, Jade Hucks, social responsibility co-ordinator, discussed the various opportunities available at HCMUK, including the range of apprenticeships they offer. She also highlighted how these opportunities could help students enhance their employability skills, secure employment, pursue further education or engage in training programmes.

Anthony (workshop supervisor) and Phil (special applications installation engineer) also attended the event and shared their career paths. They talked about how their special forces and sporting backgrounds helped them get to where they are today. The students were inspired by their unique career paths and the possibilities that a role with HCMUK can offer.

Jade Hucks expressed her satisfaction with the event, saying: “We had a wonderful time meeting the 25 young individuals currently enrolled on the HITZ programme at Newcastle College. It’s evident that these students appreciate the opportunities provided by Newcastle Rugby Foundation’s partnerships.

“HCMUK is thrilled to support NRF in fostering the aspirations of these young people. By exposing the students to the various opportunities within our company across our 14 nationwide depots, boasting a diverse workforce with varied educational and employment backgrounds, we aim to inspire them to enhance their employability skills and contribute to their success in life.”

The students have also been given the chance to attend a site visit later this month to get a first-hand experience of the work that Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) does. This visit will enable students to learn more about the company and the various career opportunities available to them.
