Hogg to captain England U18s
Newcastle Falcons back-five forward Patrick Hogg will captain the England Under-18s side when they take Scotland in round two of the 2024 U18s men’s six nations rugby festival.
Hogg starts at blind-side flanker with club-mate and prop-forward Sam Graham also named on the bench.
The encounter takes place this Wednesday April 3, kicking-off at 12:15pm UK-time at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in Parma, Italy.
Hogg and Graham were part of the side that dramatically beat Wales 36-35 in the last minute on Saturday March 30, with the former scoring England’s opening try.
The festival is a key phase of the England Rugby Men’s pathway for players and coaches to evolve and flourish on the international stage, with equal playing opportunities for each union with three 70-minute fixtures across three matchdays.
This year’s edition is the third successive staging of the U18 age-grade festival, which incorporates the Unions of Portugal and Georgia for the first time.
England U18s head coach, Jonathan Pendlebury said: “We were extremely proud of the resilience shown by the entire squad to work back into the game and come away with the victory against Wales.
They all showed learning and understanding in managing a difficult period and it was fantastic to see the brotherhood on display.
“We know that another learning opportunity awaits us in our next match against Scotland. They overcame a strong Georgia side in the opening round, so will be heading into our fixture full of confidence.
“The experiences that the players are picking up is invaluable, and Wednesday’s match is no different.”
