John Wells agrees new three year deal
Newcastle Falcons are pleased to confirm that head coach John Wells has agreed an extension to his stay at Kingston Park Stadium and will continue as the club’s head coach after completing a new three year deal.
Having taken over that position at the start of the 2014/15 season, Wells led a coaching team that put the entertainment factor back into the Falcons style of play, as the project to make the club into a major force continues.
In his first season as head coach, the Falcons recorded victories over teams like Exeter Chiefs, Gloucester Rugby and Stade Francais as well as delivering exhilarating performances against champions Saracens and Northampton Saints.
The new season will be the former England forwards and Leicester Tigers coach fourth full year at Kingston Park, after joining the club in February 2012. The former back row is delighted to extend his stay in the North East.
“I’m chuffed to bits to agree the new deal and that I can continue with the work that we have started. We went a long way last season, with the club now playing an entertaining and exciting brand of rugby and now we want to see more wins.”
“We’re pretty realistic, we were disappointed with where we finished in the league last year and we’re looking at turning some of those narrow losses into more positive results.
We’re under no illusions about how tough the league is but we’re confident that the work we’re doing now will allow us to be a good side to watch and support.”
