Newcastle Falcons have further broadened the horizons of their playing pool after signing Kenyan international Joshua Chisanga on an eighteen month deal.

Chisanga, a 23 year old number 8 joins the Falcons having made three appearances for the Kenyan national team in 2015, including the Simbas wins against Portugal and Spain that moved them closer towards their goal of ranking within the top 25 sides in the world.

A solidly built player, Chisanga has also been a regular face in the Kenyan national sevens team on the HSBC World Sevens circuit in recent seasons.

Nicknamed “The Beast” by followers of his Kenyan club side, Menengai Cream Homeboys, the back row player has also gained leadership skills at the Nairobi based side having captained the team on a number of occasions since first taking over the armband in 2014.

Having completed an initial trial and medicals, Chisanga’s move to the North East sees him become the first full Kenyan international ever to be registered with an Aviva Premiership side.

Speaking of the new signing Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards said: “Joshua has been brought to our attention and we’ve been very impressed with what we have seen so far. He has signed with us until the end of next season and we think there is a lot of talent there ready to be honed and nurtured.”

“He has performed well during his trial and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
