MacLeod revels in man of the match performance
Scott MacLeod delivered a high calibre performance after making a return to first team affairs in Sunday’s 39-19 LV= Cup win over Sale Sharks, contributing throughout the afternoon to earn a deserved Man of the Match accolade.
It was the 35 year old lock’s seventh appearance of the season and one that allowed him to show all the class and skill that has been a hall mark of his career and was to the fore in an impressive days work for the whole Falcons pack.
With three of the team’s five tries coming through the forward, MacLeod also got a clear view to the try-line during the game, however a knock on in the build up meant the star from Hawick was unable to canter the 60 meters between him and his goal.
MacLeod joked; “I would have made it! I’ve been working on my fast twitch fibre and my goosestep so I’d have made it, definitely!”
“Seriously though, it was a good game and I enjoyed it. It’s been a while since I’ve played so any opportunity that I am given to prove my worth, I am going to take, so it was good to get the man of the match award.”
“We gave ourselves a good platform to go forward and to build momentum off. We got a couple of good scores off driving line outs which is always pleasing.”
The Falcons 8 earned numerous penalties at scrum time and also pushed their Sale counterparts clean off the ball on a number of crucial restarts and it was a performance that rewarded hard work during the week.
“We’ve really worked hard on the scrum this week. We knew that with Alex [Rogers] and Eric [Fry] that we were fielding a lighter pack than normal and so we worked hard on that during the week and that really paid dividends and I felt we dominated in the scrum.”
“The line outs were also good, I felt comfortable calling them and with the hookers with got, you know that if I call it, they’ll hit it. I felt we should have had a few more steals but on the whole we had a good day.
