The 28-year-old has been capped by his country 20 times and is heading to his second Rugby World Cup, having been part of the Fijian group during the 2015 tournament in the United Kingdom.

Matavesi has been with the Fiji squad during their recent Pacific Nations Cup campaign and joins brother Sam in the Rugby World Cup party, which was announced on Friday in the country’s capital, Suva.

Fiji are currently ranked 10th in the world, and are next in action when they face Tonga in Auckland on August 31.

Their Rugby World Cup group sees games against Australia, Uruguay, Georgia and Wales.

Matavesi is the second Newcastle Falcons player to be confirmed in a squad for Rugby World Cup 2019, with Mark Wilson named in the England group. Wilson will join Sale Sharks on loan for the season upon returning from Japan.
