Newcastle Falcons were victorious in their first game under consultant director of rugby Steve Diamond, with the Tyneside club securing a 31-28 win over Sale Sharks at Salford City Stadium.

The Falcons crossed the whitewash four times through Sam Cross, Jamie Blamire, Freddie Lockwood and Rory Jennings, with Brett Connon adding six points from the tee and Josh Thomas a further five.
