The city will host the following three matches:-

– Saturday 3 October – South Africa v Scotland
– Friday 9 October – New Zealand v Tonga
– Saturday 10 October – Samoa v Scotland

The IRB’s announcement comes just days ahead of the Falcons’ play-off semi-final first leg clash at Leeds Carnegie, and is a major boost for rugby in the North East and Cumbria.

Falcons chief executive Paul Varley said: “I am delighted that world class rugby is coming to the North East, and this can act as a great catalyst for the club to grow both on and off the field.

“As always we will continue our commitment to developing grassroots rugby in the community as we build momentum towards this global event.”
