Over £3,000 raised for Hire a Hero
Newcastle Falcons would like to thank all those who played their part in fundraising efforts for forces charity Hire a Hero at December’s game against Saracens.
During Saturday’s European Rugby Challenge Cup game, the club was thrilled to be able to present a cheque for £3,011.50 to the charity, over £800 of which came directly from fans via last month’s bucket collection.
The remainder of the money was raised through a curtain raiser game on the same day between Hire a Hero’s own Gorillas rugby team and a North East Select XV in the build up to the Falcons’ match against Saracens.
Hire a Hero provide support to forces personnel who have served our country by helping them make the transition back to civilian life after the military. The charity offer assistance with employment, training, housing and care, as well as specialist support for the injured.
The Gorillas are part of the charity and are used to raise funds and awareness through a series of sporting events during the year, including rugby, boxing and gold.
The fundraising day itself was a resounding success and Newcastle Falcons are already in discussion with Hire a Hero about running the charity game against next season.
