Powell Prepared For Sunday’s Big Game
This Sunday Newcastle Falcons will welcome the current league leaders to Kingston Park Stadium when reigning Aviva Premiership champions Saracens arrive in the North East.
Newcastle Falcons’ Adam Powell says that his team are under no illusions of what to expect from the visitors this weekend.
“They’re the current champions and one of the best clubs in Europe at the moment, so we know it’s going to be a full on match.
“Whenever we play Sarries it’s a tight game and a good one so we’re expecting the same on Sunday.”
Powell, who first joined the Saracens academy at the age of 13, was part of the London club’s set up for over ten years before moving North in 2013.
This Sunday’s game will see him face his old club for a fifth time, once again playing alongside Juan Pablo Socino, his centre partner during last weekend’s 15 all draw away to Sale Sharks.
Speaking of that match Powell commented, “Last weekend’s game was a massively positive result and we’re looking to build on that this weekend.
“The Sale game was disappointing in a way because we had chances to win and may could have, but the performance we put in was really positive.
“Everyone stuck to the plan on the day and really gave it their all and there were a lot of positives to take from that.”
After a challenging start to the 2015/16 term, recent weeks have seen the Falcons put in a string of impressive performances in both the European Rugby Challenge Cup and Aviva Premiership.
Tipping his side to continue with their positive run of form, Powell explained some of the challenges the North East side experienced heading into the new term.
“You look at a team like Sarries who obviously had a lot of guys away at the World Cup, but everyone who was away had been there for a long time so it was just a case of fitting back into the system.
“For us we had guys who’d never been here before, so it was a case of learning a whole new system, meeting new people and getting settled into the area. Those are things some people take for granted, but they aren’t easy and take time.
“Now though we’re seeing improvements. We’ve had a much-improved run of performances recently and that’s something we’re definitely looking to build on this weekend.”
Sunday’s game kicks off at 3pm at Kingston Park Stadium, with tickets on sale now priced from £15 for adults and £7.50 for juniors.
