The squad reconvened on Monday at Kingston Park Stadium for the beginning of phase two, starting with swab tests as part of the Covid-19 testing programme.

Advanced planning and strict protocols govern all aspects of players’ and coaches’ time at the stadium, with the initial part of the week seeing the squad training in small groups.

Italian international lock Marco Fuser and defence coach Nick Easter were among the new faces reporting for duty on day one, with centre Tom Penny also on board following his move home from Harlequins.

Preparations will gradually be ramped up as all roads lead to the start of the new Gallagher Premiership season on the weekend of November 20-22, following the Falcons’ promotion into the top flight.

Fixtures for the new season have not yet been announced, while the club also eagerly awaits government guidance around the vital issue of whether crowds will be allowed to attend matches.

The club will communicate these details as soon as they are able to, but in the meantime would like to thank fans for their ongoing patience and support.
