RFU CHAMPIONSHIP LAUNCH TWITTER CAMPAIGN

Thursday 28 March 2013 Written by: Adam

In what will be a first in rugby worldwide, the RFU Championship, the second tier of English professional rugby, will stream a game live on Twitter during the final weekend of league fixtures on Saturday April 20, in association with the Rugby Paper.

Continuing to bring supporters closer to the action, which game is streamed live through the social networking site will be chosen by public vote. That’s right! The RFU Championship are giving you the opportunity to decide.

The final weekend of games offers up some fascinating encounters, with Newcastle – already guaranteed a place in the semi-finals – hoping to end the league stage without dropping a match, in form Nottingham facing a tough away trip to Leeds Carnegie, and Cornish Pirates seeing off the league stage with a visit from survival hopefuls Jersey.

Speaking about the new initiative, RFU Head of Digital Nick Shaw said: “This is another fantastic piece of innovation from the RFU Championship. The league offers us a real opportunity to get closer to the action and importantly, involve supporters throughout.

“Rather than us predict which game we think supporters will want to see, we’ve chosen to ask them directly, which is a first for the Union.

“In addition, the streaming on Twitter is a first in rugby worldwide, and in professional sport in the UK.”

So if you want to watch Doncaster Knights fight for survival against Plymouth Albion, Moseley welcome Bedford Blues to Billesley Common or Rotherham Titans battle London Scottish, simply visit www.RFU.com/FanVote and register your vote. The game with the highest number of votes will be streamed live via @RFUChampionship on Saturday April 20.

Voting is now open and will close at midnight, Sunday April 14. Any submissions received after this time will not be counted. The chosen game will be announced on Monday April 15.
