RUSSELL LOOKING FOR A REACTION

Despite a bright start to proceedings and a valiant late dash to the try line in the closing stages, the Falcons lost out to the Cherry and Whites 22-16.

Now a week on, and with players back in contention, the Kiwi coach is in positive mood ahead of his side’s trip to Sixways Stadium.

“Worcester have a big pack and I think our movement around the field will be key for us,” said Russell.

“Hopefully we can keep the crowd relatively quiet by getting points on the board. We just need to build on the pressure that we put on them, making sure we are controlling the scoreboard, and this game is a must win for us,” he added.

The Warriors are still without a win to their name, but with a passionate Sixways crowd backing their team, the Falcons will have their work cut out.

Russell said: “Worcester is a tough place to travel to and what more can you say about Sixways – there will undoubtedly be a big atmosphere down there with two teams fighting it out for the points. It’s up to us to make sure that we come away with the points.”

Reflecting on the Gloucester clash, Russell said: “It was a disappointing outcome, especially when we were 13-8 up at half-time. I thought we had a reasonable opportunity going into the second half with the breeze behind us.

“At the end of the day we didn’t take our opportunities and our kicking game was a bit woeful.”
