Scotland call-up for Welsh
The 31-year-old won the last of his 11 Scotland caps against Australia in October 2015 but has shone for the Falcons this season.
Welsh has started all seven of Newcastle’s Aviva Premiership games, and scored a try in the European Challenge Cup victory at Bordeaux-Begles.
He joins fellow Falcon Chris Harris in the Scotland squad, the centre having made his debut in last weekend’s 44-38 triumph over Samoa.
