Set piece focus for Falcons forwards

Scottish international Jon Welsh is part of a Falcons pack looking to meet the challenge of a vaunted Russian eight on Sunday in the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Enisei STM travel to the North East with the traditional strengths of teams from out East of solid set pieces one of a number of weapons in the arsenal and one that the Falcons forward have been working to counter.

“We’ve been working a lot on our set piece and we’ll be looking to execute our set plays off the back of that. Enisei will be looking to dominate that. They have a good driving maul and a good strong scrum and we will be looking to take the battle to them there.”

With a big European crowd set to pack Kingston Park for the match, Welsh is hoping a vocal Falcons fan base can play a part in securing victory.

“The support here is great; I’ve met plenty of the fans, who are really lovely people and a great support. We’re all looking forward to it; It has been a really good quality week of training that has been sharp and intense.”

Tickets for tomorrow’s game are still available with adults priced at £10 and under 16s at £5 in all areas of the stadium.
