Terry Parsons Memorial Game at KP on March 5

Sunday 26 February 2017 Written by: Adam

The Terry Parsons Memorial Game will be played on the main field at 10.45am the same day Newcastle Falcons host Saracens in the Aviva Premiership – the Falcons’ match kicking off at 2pm.

Terry’s Newton Aycliffe team-mates will be playing against the club they were facing back in September, when the father of five collapsed during a game against Houghton RUFC.

Players from both clubs heroically tried to revive him on the field of play while they waited for emergency services, but were unable to do so. Terry later passed away in Sunderland Royal Hospital despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The Terry Parsons Memorial Game will raise funds for the RFU Injured Players Foundation. Tickets for the Falcons’ 2pm kick-off against Saracens will also grant entry to the fundraising game, and there will be a bucket collection inside the stadium on the day.

Newcastle Falcons’ managing director Mick Hogan said: “At the time of Terry’s tragic death we contacted Newton Aycliffe RUFC and Terry’s family to offer our assistance in any way possible, and we are proud to be able to honour Terry with a memorial game at Kingston Park Stadium on an Aviva Premiership match day.

“As part of the rugby family we all felt a sense of loss at what happened that awful day, but the united manner in which the rugby community has rallied round just goes to show the fantastic principles which underpin our great game.

“We urge as many people as possible to come down to Kingston Park Stadium and support a very worthy cause, and we would also like to thank Houghton RUFC for their tremendous generosity in making this fixture possible.”
