TRAINING ADVICE FOR ASPIRING RUGBY PLAYERS
Yesterday the Storm Fitness performance department, made up of ex-professional rugby players Spencer Davey and Lome Fa’atau offered their first tip to help aspiring rugby players focus their training for better results.
That first tip was to set your goal, and can be found here.
Today, Spencer and Lome offer their second tip; train the whole body. They tell us more:
“Train the whole body- If you are an aspiring athlete it is important to recognise the difference between a training program that will help you look good and one that will increase your performance.
“Whilst using a training program that trains muscles in isolation may improve the look of your biceps it’s unlikely to improve performance and in many cases will actually hinder performance and increase the risk of injury. Movements that train groups of muscles such as the front squat improve the way those muscles work together and have a far greater impact on performance above exercises like the leg extension where the muscles are working alone.”
