Newcastle Falcons prop Sam Lockwood makes an eagerly awaited debut in Sunday’s European Rugby Challenge Cup match against Grenoble (KO 3pm), with the Dewsbury born forward excited to make his first start for the club at home.

Lockwood joined the Falcons from Greene King IPA Championship side Jersey over the summer and was scheduled to make his club bow against Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership, before a training knock enforced his withdrawal.

Now back to fitness, he is expecting a strong challenge from the Top 14 side but looking forward to meeting that head on.

Speaking to Falcons TV, the 28 year old said, “I was obviously gutted to pick up that slight knock in the build up to Leicester but now I’ve got a chance to go against Grenoble and I am really excited.

“They will be a big pack with a big set piece focus, but you get used to that playing in the championship and I am quite looking forward to the challenge and seeing what they have got to bring.”
