“WE SHOULD HAVE PERFORMED BETTER” – SOCINO
Juan Pablo Socino was a disappointed figure following Saturday’s LV= Cup loss to Northampton Saints at Franklins Gardens, but insists his side can get their campaign back on track on Friday against Cardiff Blues.
Socino was his usual industrious self in attack and defence on Saturday and linked well with scrum half Andy Davies to score a try when the team needed to seize some momentum but was unable to spark the full fight back needed to secure the win.
“We were playing well and were in the game up to half time, but we had just too many mistakes in the second half and you can’t afford mistakes against a team like Northampton.”
The Saints were ruthlessly efficient in exploiting chances afforded them by Falcons errors, which Socino feels was the major difference between the sides.
“They capitalised on mistakes, and I think that ability took them further away from us than they possibly should have been, but we can have no complaints as we should have performed better.”
Losing for the first time in over a month, the Argentine insists that the team are still in a good place and primed to push on as the season progresses, starting with the round two LV= Cup fixture against Cardiff this Friday.
“We just have to learn from last weekend, put it behind us and focus on Cardiff. We still have confidence and belief in ourselves and we are still working hard during the week. Yes we are frustrated with the result from Saints because we know we can do better than that, but that is pleasing as we know what to do to put it right.”
Agreeing with his Director of Rugby, Socino has highlighted the breakdown as an area to be worked on in the build up to the visit of the side from the Welsh capital.
“It’s a massive area for us, we need to really look after the ball because when we kept hold of it, we looked really dangerous, ran some good shapes and scoring some points.”
