Coming hot on the heels of their win at home to Gloucester United earlier this month, the Falcons made it three wins out of five for the season as the feel good factor continues on Tyneside.
“It has been a really good campaign for us and three out of five wins is a good return,” said Ponton.
He added: “We should have probably made it four with a win against Northampton which would have put us in contention for the semi-finals.

As with all of the away A League fixtures, director of rugby Dean Richards and his fellow coaching staff were present at Sixways Stadium for Monday night’s contest.
Ponton said: “It’s great to see them coming down to watch the games this season, and it just shows how seriously they are taking the academy set-up.
“Dean and the coaches came into the dressing room after the game to offer their congratulations. You just have to look at Saturday’s game against Cross Keys when Zach Kibirige and Scott Wilson got their chance – if these lads continue to impress they will get their chance.”
Giving a brief assessment of his team’s final A League game, Ponton said: “I thought we gave away too many penalties in the first-half, and we invited a lot of pressure, but once we cut out the penalties we were dangerous.
“We got into their half and got points on the board once we improved our discipline.”
